Meeting Jan 30
Posted By: Admin
Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Reminder that the next League meeting is Jan 30.
Items we'll discuss & vote on to possibly change for next season:

Potential change to Playoff Format:

The reason to consider this change is that we are not being very fiscally responsible with respect to playoff ice costs.
We spend a lot of money on ice in playoffs, and if the series is a sweep, we eat the cost.
Ie: Our current playoffs includes 17 playoff series and 17/51 Games are Game 3's which may not get used. (But we pay for the ice & do not get reimbursed due to the fact that our playoffs are played in a short period of time)
Many leagues have adopted a double knockout format which ensures that no ice gets wasted.
These are the potential new playoff formats:
Advantages: No wasted ice (withthe exception of maybe the very final game).
Disadvantages: Loss of the traditional "playoff series". On the other hand, by having this double knockout format, there is sure to be less player animosity that ensues when guys play each other 3x in 5 days.
Items to discuss: If this format is favorable, how do we handle tie games? We need to consider that every single game would need a winner/loser. One solution would be to consider a 5-minute 3-on-3 Overtime (which would be exciting) before going to a shootout.

Potential Expansion of 35+ Division:

There is the possibility of expanding the HHL 35+ Division from 12 to 16 teams as soon as next season.
This would allow us to mirror the A/B Division format & create two 8-team 35+ Divisions (35A & 35B)
The 35+ Schedule would remain 36 games:
- Play your own division 4 times (7x4 = 28)
- Play the other division 1 time (8 x 1 = 8)
- Total GP = 36
